The old site had basically turned into a graveyard, a dead page full of outdated information. It was not the look that bothered me.
What really got on my nerves was the looong loading time and the stiff, awkward setup. Yep, that one was on me. I had cobbled it together with Wordpress on a webhost that was not exactly made for Wordpress.
So anyone who wanted to look at the site first had to spend more than 30 seconds waiting before anything even showed up.
Even though I am pretty comfortable building websites and working with CMSs, Wordpress never became a friend of mine.
After 4 years it was finally time for something new. I turned the whole site upside down and rebuilt it from scratch.
Of course my most precious treasure, the old blog from the walk to the Mediterranean, had to stay. But everything else needed to become more alive, more flexible, easier to grow, and above all, much faster.
I hope you like it. Feel free to tell me what you think.
